Tantra Kriyas are tantric techniques for spiritual growth that one can practice alone. Tantra kriya yoga techniques are especially useful for new students of the tantric arts who are finding it difficult to meditate. These kriyas can be very helpful in stilling and composing the mind for proper tantra meditation. Students should receive instructions on their correct use from a qualified and experienced tantra teacher.

It is the nature of the human mind to go where it will and follow its own lines of thought. This does not change as soon as one begins practicing these techniques. Our uncontrolled emotions are the source of our uncontrolled thoughts, and this takes time to heal. Tantric kriyas help to purify the emotions. Eventually, mental and emotional clarity will replace the usual chaos in the mind.
One of the most basic and also most powerful kriyas is tantra breathing – or, more specifically, the mindful observing and controlling of one’s breath. The process of breathing is a perpetual one as long as metabolic life persists in the body. It is also an accurate yardstick of what is happening in the person who is breathing. Breath rate speeds up when the person experiences fear or great passion. It slows down when the person is asleep or bored. One tends to hold one’s breath when one is awaiting the results of a certain action or event.
However, every student of tantra knows that the breath also influences the body and emotions. Not only do we breathe faster when aroused or fearful – the faster breath actually encourages these emotions. Naturally, the resultant emotions also reflect in the body’s working. When you learn tantric kriya yoga techniques for the controlling of your breath with your tantra teacher, you will be able to influence how your body and mind react to certain stimuli as well.
As you become more adept at the tantric breathing techniques or kriyas, you will discover that you are actually able to conquer fear and doubt, as well as rein in and channel sexual passion. This is the very essence of orgasm control. Erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation are often the result of fear, self-doubt and the inability to control the tide of passion once the floodgates open. With tantra kriya yoga breath control and observation techniques, these issues that plague so many males can become a thing of the past.
If you are serious about learning the secrets of tantra, find an experienced tantric master who can guide you on your way to spiritual mastery over your mind and body.

No matter how well you have absorbed and practiced the tantra lessons taught by your tantra teacher, you will discover that there are times of sexual energy mismatch. In other words, the cycles of your own sexual desire and that of your intimate partner will not always be in perfect synchronization. This is perfectly natural and serves its own purpose, but can be a source of confusion and disillusionment to many.

Tantra does not promise that students of the tantric arts will become sexual dynamos, ready to rev up and generate erotic energy at the drop of a hat. In fact, tantra adheres seamlessly to the immutable laws of nature that govern our existence. These laws require periods of abstinence from sexual encounters for various reasons – regeneration, a greater need for meditation, the ‘spaces in your togetherness’ that Kahlil Gibran so wisely advocates, etc.
As a tantra master, I often find myself having to explain the need for occasional abstinence from sexual activity to my students. No two human beings will ever be perfectly in tune with each other, because every human being is a unique expression of the Divine. The tantra god and tantra goddess are divine beings, but they are very much subject to the natural ebbs and tides of tantric energy. It is not the objective of any tantra teacher to overcome these inalienable rules, but to bring his students into tune with them.
So what can you do if your desire overflows but your partner’s seems to be at ebb? There are, in fact, several options which ancient tantra advocates at such times. First of all, be aware of what you are really feeling. The simple need for touch and togetherness is often misinterpreted as sexual desire. This is especially true for men; women tend to be more in touch with their feelings and invariably know the difference.
If all you really seek is physical touch and togetherness, there is almost never a time when your intimate partner will not oblige to provide it. Do not underestimate the power of simple cuddling, which is a highly underrated bonding tool. If you really do feel sexual desire while your partner does not, you should be able to ask him or her for seemingly one-sided solutions such as oral or manual pleasuring. This is not an imposition and you would be surprised at how willingly it will be provided in most circumstances.
Self-gratification is also a perfectly acceptable method of stilling non-reciprocated sexual desire. Hopefully, your tantra teacher would have helped you unlearn the irrational biases that have kept you from using this route whenever you need to.
Finally, the erotic energy mismatch may be the result of an overt or hidden conflict between you and your intimate partner. In such a case, you should not expect him or her to feel exactly as you do. Conflict between intimate partners, while natural, must be resolved at the earliest because it represents an imbalance – a lack of spiritual harmony – between two essentially divine beings. The resolution of such conflict is a matter of separate study of which I will write at a later date.

For any male student of tantra, the study and understanding of women is indispensible course material. No tantra teacher would proceed in his tantric instructions if he perceives that his student has not yet grasped the tender nuances of the female gender. If such a gap is perceived, it must first be filled – because a man who does not understand women will only objectify them.

The first thing you need to understand about women is the fact that, unlike men, their primary focus is on emotional bonding. This is a mechanism provided to them by nature which allows them to separate the predators from the protectors. A man who seeks only sexual gratification does not serve the woman’s highest natural purpose – that of continuing the human race. Such a man will leave the woman with child but not provide or protect what he has spawned.
As opposed to the predator, the protector operates from an innate bond with his mate. He will not seek only sexual gratification but also provide for her and the offspring he spawns. This bond is what human love is basically all about, and it is this bond that every woman on this planet is programmed to seek and respond to. Those who want to learn tantra merely to better cater to their base animal desires have missed the point altogether.
Ancient tantra reveres the woman’s constant quest for genuine love and cherishing. The tantric arts recognize this quest with the desire of any celestial being to be loved and respected at the celestial level, and not be dragged down by the sordid shallowness of earthly misconceptions about true relationships.
Tantra love is the highest form of human love, because it takes both love and sexual desire and lifts them into a spiritual plane. It introduces the element of worship into the man-woman relationship. Tantra worship is nothing but the highest spiritual expression of the most noble human emotion – that of love.
A man who does not possess within himself the ability to worship his woman as a tantra goddess is either ignorant or hamstrung by his ego. Ignorance can be cured with knowledge, but the ego needs to be broken down and exposed for what it is. No tantra teacher relishes the sight of a man’s traditionally massive ego coming down in ruins, but he will exercise his skills to make it happen if so required.
A man (or for that matter a woman) who approaches ancient tantra from the standpoint of self-absorption, self-centredness and selfishness can never create a spiritual connection with their partner. And without this spiritual connection, tantra love is unattainable – a mirage in the desert.
When you approach a tantra teacher with the desire to be instructed in the ancient tantric arts, do so with an open mind. Do so with a willingness to unlearn everything you have ever learned about what it means to love. Do so in the preparedness of forgetting everything you ever assumed to be true about love, sex and intimacy.
You are about to leave the temporal behind and be guided into the spiritual. In the presence of a tantra master, there is no room for your old prejudices and misconceptions – all these will be swept away in an awakening into the true meaning of love.
