The Power Of The Tantra Path

You hear a lot about tantra power, which is often misunderstood as some kind of occult power. As a tantra teacher who has received his knowledge from an unbroken line of tantric sages, I assure you that this is nonsense.

Tantric power is not occult – it comes from practicing empowering techniques, shedding self-limiting inhibitions and following a spiritual lifestyle. The first and foremost empowering factor is the absence of unnatural inhibitions.

shiva The Power Of The Tantra Path

From earliest childhood, humans are conditioned to believe certain things about themselves, others and their place in the scheme of things. These beliefs tend to bring about a sense of shame and insecurity and are usually related to religion, social hierarchy and sexual conduct.  As a result, humans are unnaturally inhibited from their earliest stages of development.

The primary emotion that drives all inhibitions and inhibited conduct is fear. The person fears the criticism of others – of religious priests, teachers and parents. The person understands that by thinking and behaving in a certain standardized manner, he or she will gain acceptance and approval from these authority figures and from peers.

Anyone who seeks the empowerment of the tantric path must first confront and deal with these fears.  Religion and social conditioning infuse in people a systematic guilt complex. This guilt complex vastly reduces self-esteem and prevents people from reaching their fullest potential – socially, spiritually and sexually.

Tantra views every human being as an extension of the Divine, and all tantric techniques and teachings come from this basic premise. Our bodies are nothing to be ashamed of. Our sexual desires are as natural as the need to eat, breathe and sleep. A tantra master who hopes to awaken in his students the potential for tantra power will first help them to fully grasp this truth.

As the student moves gradually from inhibition and fear to a state of self acceptance and fearlessness, the empowerment begins to happen. Tantra power is simply the ability to see oneself and others clearly. It is the absence of self deception and freedom from the deceptions fisted on us by parents, society and religion. A newer, far more evolved set of moral values and standards takes root.

In tantric circles, we often hear of the release of kundalini energy. This spiritual energy exists in all of us, but it is cramped and buried by our fears and inhibitions. Our chakras, which represent that path along which kundalini energy is meant to travel freely, are blocked. As tantra training progresses under the guidance of a qualified tantric teacher, the chakras open up and kundalini power is allowed to flow without obstruction.

This is a state of tantra empowerment. And it is available to anyone who is willing to put in the dedication, time and effort to learn the secrets of ancient tantra.

The Tantra Concept Of Universal Acceptance

When a tantra teacher begins his instructions with any set of new students, one of the first things that he must address are prejudices. Tantra teaches us never to condemn anything, because by doing so we are closing our hearts and souls to the Infinite. It is our prejudices that inhibit our potential for spiritual growth. And because of this, they must be exposed for the folly they are and be vanquished.

acceptance The Tantra Concept Of Universal Acceptance

What are these prejudices? As a tantra master, I have come across all kinds – male chauvinism, feminism, bigotry, religious fanaticism, they are all forms of prejudice. Before I can even begin imparting tantra instructions, I have to help my students overcome their mental and spiritual barriers towards the natural diversity of all life. I do so by teaching my students the truths of ancient tantra, which was borne out of a universal acceptance of everything that exists as perfect.

In tantra for couples sessions, I many times discern an unspoken antipathy of the partners towards each other. This antipathy may have many reasons. The man may not approve of his woman’s friends. The woman may perceive that her man is excessively focused on his work. They may be derisive of each other’s’ religious or spiritual beliefs. There may be a tendency to expect sexual favours which are perceived to be perverted. Whatever the prejudice is, it must be addressed and resolved before any kind of spiritual instructions can begin.

Tantra is a science and system that is deeply rooted in worship and cherishing. Without these elements, no aspiring student of tantra can hope to make progress. It is a psychological fact that we cannot worship and cherish someone against we harbor some kind of bias. The souls must meet and unite on the level ground of cosmic equality.

Nature does not entertain or condone any concepts of higher or lower-born or superiority or inferiority in genetic antecedents. Tantra does not recognize religious distinctions at all. This must be clearly understood by any student of tantra who wishes to travel this ancient spiritual path.

To identify such prejudices, a tantra teacher relies on the deep psychological insights that his own training in this ancient art of love and life have provided him with. However, he must not be mistaken for a relationship counselor. The tantric master is a spiritual guide who can discern prejudice-based flaws in a relationship, and will address them in a manner prescribed by tantra scriptures.

Before you begin your tantric journey, it is good to examine your soul and find out if you harbour any kind of prejudices. If so, be ready to have them exposed for the foolishness they are. Tantra teaches Universal Acceptance, and it is into this kind of all-encompassing acceptance that you must grow in order to experience spiritual progress.

Enhance Your Tantra Experience With Aromatherapy

One of the most important aspects of tantra practice is setting an optimal atmosphere for worship meditation. In India, diffused fragrance us a traditional mainstay of most spiritual activity, and not without reason. The human mind responds to olfactory inputs in different ways, and can therefore be conditioned into a worshipful state by such means.

aromatherapy Enhance Your Tantra Experience With Aromatherapy

There are various ways in which you can use your olfactory senses to tone your mind and enhance your overall experience in tantra sessions. One of these is the use of aromatherapy. Apart from setting the right kind of spiritual mood during tantra exercises, aromatherapy is a time-honored means to achieve overall healing of the mind and body. As a tantra teacher, I especially advocate its use in tantra meditation.

Aromatherapy in the form of aromatherapy candles or diffused essential oils is a wonderful source of nourishment for your mind, body and spirit. The oils used are completely organic and contain no chemical additives. The healing effect begins on inhaling the fragrance – the olfactory nerves are activated and stimulated, after which they transmit healing messages directly to the brain.

Apart from being an excellent way to establish the right kind of atmosphere for tantra meditation, aromatherapy can also heal various physical ills. This is because they have antibacterial, antibiotic and antiviral properties.  The application or inhalation of certain natural essential oils can have a profound healing effect.

For instance, eucalyptus alleviate the symptoms of colds and offers relief to those who suffer from any kind of allergy. Geranium is wonderful for relieving stress, especially just before their periods. Lavender-scented aromatherapy candles are perfect for reducing anxiety and depression. In my tantra for couples sessions, I usually employ rosewood-scented aromatherapy candles because their pleasant, woodsy aroma creates an atmosphere of overall wellbeing.

One of the most powerful aroma therapy elements for tantra practice is basil oil, since it helps in sharpening concentration and also combats depression. Tea tree oil is an antifungal agent when applied locally and its smell also has an immensely healing effect. Similarly, lavender oil has a calming and relaxing effect.

No tantric master will claim that the use of aromatherapy is some kind of miracle cure for all ills – it is not. However, it certainly is extremely useful when it is used in tantra sessions.  As for the aphrodisiac qualities of certain aromatherapy elements – sandalwood oil, jasmine and rose are said to have a profound effect on the human libido.

This is, of course, highly subjective and while it may work for some, it may not for others. However, it is certainly true that the erotic aspects of tantra are fundamentally based on worship and therefore hot-wired into its spiritual elements. Since aromatherapy is a powerful tool for establishing a worshipful atmosphere, no tantra teacher can dismiss this aspect altogether.
