As a matter of fact, there are distinct differences between tantra meditation and yoga meditation. They have different premises and the methods of practice are also different. Tantric meditation is one of the most important techniques taught by a tantra teacher as he is helping his students to understand the divine nature of their sexuality, and to overcome sexual inhibitions.

However, it does not necessarily involve sex. Tantric meditation is indeed an advanced method of delving within, connecting with the tantric deities and deriving understanding and power from them, and from the Cosmos.
Once you become adept at tantric meditation, your mind and body become vibrantly attuned to your natural desires – much like a perfectly tuned violin or piano. You are able to resonate to your partner’s own vibrations. When this happens, you will understand what it means to be in a state of constant readiness to engage in intimacy. Also, you will have overcome all your misconceptions and fears about physical intimacy.
In order to you to learn this form of meditation, your tantra master will gradually expose you to various mantras and mind states. The blockages that prevent the free flow of tantra energy between your chakras dissolve, leaving a clear path for the energy to flow.
These are the first steps towards unleashing of the kundalini, but it is still only an initial stage. Kundalini awakening must happen only once the mind and body have been sufficiently trained by tantra meditation. Nevertheless, you are tapping into this powerful source of energy as you practice this form of meditation.
A person whose mind has been trained by tantra meditation will be able to engage in physical intimacy for virtually unlimited periods, because the old concepts of what sex and orgasm are have been left behind. A sexual encounter between two partners who have attained proficiency in this kind of meditation takes place in what could be termed a trance.
Actually, it is nothing but a very high form of awareness and involvement with each other. There is no agenda, and there are no goals to reach. The only purpose is to stay in the moment in a state of complete worship of each other.
It should now be clear that tantric meditation and yoga meditation are very different concepts. While yogic meditation can bring about peace of mind and significantly improved health, the tantra version goes far beyond this and actually taps into one’s primeval energy. It is one of the most healing and exalting experiences that a human being is capable of. There are also various forms of tantra meditation, which I will discuss at a later stage.

The issue of Viagra use in context with tantra sex is one which crops up in most of my initial tantra lessons with new students. This is not surprising. It would appear that most men above 40 (and often much younger ones) have turned to Viagra or its equivalents in order to enhance libido and sexual performance.
Also, most couples seeking out a tantra teacher are unaware of the fact that the tantric arts are not just about sex. Such discussions are therefore inevitable.

As a tantra teacher, I do not take a moralistic stance on sexual performance enhancement drugs and aphrodisiacs. Suffice it to say that once you have progressed sufficiently in your tantra instructions, you will find them unnecessary.
This may not sound realistic, since many men depend almost exclusively on these drugs when it comes to sexual performance. However, the fact is that students of ancient tantra simply have no need for such ‘modern’ pharmaceutical interventions. To understand how this is possible, it is important to understand why drugs such as Viagra are being used in the first place.
Most of the time, there are no physical justifications for their use. Most men use these drugs because of psychological underpinnings. They believe that they cannot ‘rise to the occasion’ unless they avail of such artificial boosters.
Also, they have found that as long as sexual desire exists, they are able to use these performance-enhancing drugs regardless of who their partners are, or how they feel about them. However, the fact is that as long as there is a sufficient level of bonding, cherishing and trust between two physically healthy partners, no such interventions are required at all.
Such a level of love and trust can only exist between a man and woman who have learned to connect to each other at a spiritual level – a worshipful level.
Tantra sex takes place in a worshipful setting of mutual reverence and connectedness. Once a couple has learned to achieve these with the help of a genuine tantric master, all inhibitions and feelings of ineptness and inadequacy fall away. Love now exists in its natural state, and at a much higher level than ever before. Moreover, the regular practice of tantra meditation and tantric exercises hone body and mind to a hitherto unthought-of level of fitness.
I will not denounce the use of drugs such as sildenafil or tadalafil by men who have never been introduced to the tantric way of life. However, I assure them that once they integrate the precepts and practices of ancient tantra into their lives, they will never need such artificial help again.

The tantra viewpoint on sex has always been at odds with the aggressively marketed religions of the world. There is good reason for this. The fact is that most religions of the world require their followers to subdue their natural desires. Ancient tantra advocates awareness and acceptance of one’s desires, and the fulfilling of those desires in a spiritual and wholesome manner.

As a tantra teacher, I will readily admit that the prohibitive stance that the world’s religions take can have some benefits. For instance, the Catholic Christian faith considers gluttony a sin. We all know the dangers of overeating. It also advocates single-partner sex, which is definitely advisable in a day and age where AIDS has become a serious problem. Here are clear instances where religion can do some good by wielding the ‘fear the wrath of God’ stick. But unfortunately, it does not end there.
The ‘fear of God’ is not based on awareness of the natural consequences of over-indulgence. As the term itself implies, it is based on fear. This fear is induced in order to elicit unquestioning obedience to the ‘Laws of God’, which human priesthoods enforce without being too sure themselves from where these laws actually originated.
Tantra advocates understanding of the human condition, and the balanced fulfillment of natural desires. There are no laws or rules. Everything is based on knowledge and scientific facts.
In any case, sex and sexuality have always been subject to a lot of religious sanctions and dogma. There are various reasons for this. One is that most religions of the world are male-dominated, and sexual insecurity is a real issue for almost all men to some degree or the other.
For instance, the fact that man is capable of only one orgasm within a certain period of time while women are capable of multiple orgasms has been the source of a lot of performance anxiety. Throughout the ages, men have feared the woman’s sexuality because they feel they cannot match it. No matter how much we appear to have evolved as a race, it is a fact that man still bases his innate sense of self on his ability to perform sexually.
The fear of woman’s sexuality has been so great that certain countries have been practicing female circumcision. Though they cite various religious justifications for this, the fact is that this practice is nothing but a means for man to re-establish his pre-eminence at the top of the gender heap.
If woman cannot experience sexual pleasure, she will never know if her man matches the ‘standard’ of virility or not. It is way for man to relieve himself of his chronic sexual performance anxiety.
In tantra, human sexuality is examined closely and understood in all its manifestations. There is no right or wrong, virtuous or sinful, good or bad. There is simply acceptance of the truth of human sexuality. If you are a victim of religious misconceptions about sex, you are an unfulfilled, insecure and fearful person.
Ancient tantra is a spiritual path that lets you shed your fear and inhibitions, understand and accept your natural desires and meet them in a natural, fulfilling manner.
