Transformation Through Tantra Meditation

Your tantra teacher may ask you – what do sex and meditation have in common? The answer is that they both have the mind as the primary participant. In fact, the mind is the most important sexual organ. Imagine trying to have sex without being able to think about the act… without building up mental anticipation first and without perceiving and processing our partner’s sexual attraction. It is impossible.

Tantra meditation takes cognizance of the fact that there is no such thing as mindless sex. Your tantra teacher will instruct you in honing the mind into a highly evolved, powerful sexual tool.

With tantra meditation, intimate partners learn to approach the sexual act with complete mindfulness. With tantric meditation, sex is no longer just carnal lust and gratification but becomes something spiritual. Inhibitions, reservations and self-doubt dissolve under the advance of complete awareness of the act, the desire that drives it and the object of desire. Objectification of the sexual partner ceases, and a worshipful mind-set takes its place. The tantra god and tantra goddess engage each other at the mind level, and only proceed to the level of sacred sex.

Tantra meditation may lead to actual sex, but a physical encounter is by no means the only objective. Your tantra master will make it very clear that the most important objective of tantric meditation is complete mindfulness of the partner and of oneself. The sexual energy that exists between the intimate partners is examined and cherished at the mind level, and this itself can be far more exciting and fulfilling than even a full-body orgasm.

In practicing tantra meditation under a qualified tantric teacher, the students of tantra discover and explore the sacred aspects of their love for each other. Done correctly and consistently, it is a deeply transforming experience that cannot be matched by mere joining of bodies at the physical level.

In the basic format of tantric meditation, the partners sit quietly in front of each other. They sit neither too near nor too far apart. They may be clothed or naked, and they may look upon each other or sit with their eyes closed. Either way, they are opening up a channel for tantra energy to flow freely between them.

If sex is to follow, the partners should decide on a period in which they will first engage in complete mindfulness and meditation before sex ensues. In this period, they will engage in tantra breathing and maintain a worshipful silence. Initially, their tantric master will guide their thoughts so that they do not stray from the desired focus.

When the partners have achieved a sufficient level of proficiency in this form of meditation, they are often able to achieve orgasms without so much as touching or looking at each other. No foreplay, erection or any kind of physical contact is required – it happens at the cosmic level.

If you are eager to explore the transformative powers of tantra meditation, you should seek out an experienced tantric teacher who can initiate and guide you into it. It is a grievous mistake to practice tantra without such expert guidance, since amateur attempts can seriously contaminate any spiritual pursuit.

The Spiritual Roots Of Tantra Yoga

Much is written on tantra yoga, but it is important to understand what differentiates tantric yoga from other forms. Like everything else about the tantric way of life, this form of yoga has very deep roots in the human experience.

shiva The Spiritual Roots Of Tantra Yoga

The principles of Tantra Yoga are based on an amalgamation of various sciences and spiritual studies, including astrology, astronomy, psychology, chemistry, physics, numerology and the ancient Indian herbal medicine system of Ayurveda. Tantra yoga has a basis in all these disciplines, and is therefore a profound practice with roots in a wide cross-section of human existence.

When a student learns tantra yoga under and experienced tantra teacher, he or she will experience an incredible expansion of awareness in every state of consciousness. However, it is first necessary for the tantra teacher to de-program the student’s mind. Tantra yoga requires a relatively pure and innocent state of mind and awareness in which to take hold and flourish.

The deprogramming process in teaching tantra yoga is not always pleasant, since the student of tantra needs to question many erroneous beliefs and practices that keep him or her from evolving into a higher state of spiritual awareness. There are many social, familial or experiential influences that crowd our mind, and these are constantly working in the background to rob us of mental peace and spiritual equilibrium.

Since these ‘programs’ are contrary to what tantra yoga requires, they are first exposed and then cleaned from the mind and soul. This requires a master’s touch and a whole lot of compassion. This is why tantric yoga should never be taught by anyone but an accomplished tantra master.

Throughout the learning process, the tantra student is introduced to various techniques to identify and eliminate the contaminants of the soul and the psyche. Disruptive factors that poison thoughts and emotions are faced and overcome, and the result is freedom from ignorance, intolerance and pointless, bestial lust. These are replaced by knowledge, a sense of oneness with all things and the awakening of sacred sexuality.

Tantra yoga finally brings with it a welling up of tantra energy – energy which was hitherto misunderstood and either abused or sadly under-utilized. In this state of psychic and spiritual renewal, regular practice of tantra yoga under the auspices of a genuine tantra teacher will yield profound results. In fact, life itself is reinvented.

The various postures and meditation techniques of tantric yoga constantly purify mind, body and soul, detoxifying the practitioner at every level of existence and bringing peace, harmony and spiritual wellbeing.

Basic Tantra Massage Guidelines

Tantric Massage is only one aspect of learning and practicing tantra. Other vital components that the tantra teacher will instruct his pupils in are tantric yoga, meditation, breathing and sexual techniques.

tantra massage Basic Tantra Massage Guidelines

One of the most basic fundamentals of tantra massage is that the giver and receiver must have a pre-existing emotional bond. By this definition, all commercialized tantric massage services fly out of the window. It is almost impossible for a woman or man to enjoy and benefit from a tantra massage if she or he receives it from a stranger. The element of trust and intimacy is paramount in all tantric techniques, tantra exercises and tantra rituals.

A tantric massage must take place in a setting that is conducive to complete relaxation and whatever intimate contact may follow. Obviously, it must also provide complete privacy and freedom from potential disturbances. Therefore, all contact with the outside world must be cut off. The surface on which the massage will take place should be equipped with a comfortable mattress or mat with a freshly laundered sheet. Rolled-up towels to support the neck and knees are essential.

For the tantra massage, only high-quality massage oil should be used. Ideally, the intimate atmosphere should be further enhanced with incense, candle light and soft devotional music. I personally recommend a prolonged musical recitation of the Avalokitasvara Sutra, which is commonly chanted at Buddhist temples in East Asia. It is the perfect musical backdrop for a tantric massage.

Begin this tantric ritual with the recipient lying on his or her stomach. Start with a gentle foot massage and then shift your ministrations to the neck and shoulders. These areas have vital pressure points which, if attended to with light but firm massage strokes, release relaxation throughout the body. The masseur can then proceed to massage the upper middle and lower back, continuing in these areas until all the knots and tension have been worked out from the muscles there. Then gently turn the recipient over so that you can work on the front.

Remember that this form of massage is not just about relaxation but also about building up the tantra energy in the recipient’s body. As this energy is liberated and begins to flow, Kundalini is awakened. This energizes and balances the Chakras – energy centers that are distributed along the central axis of the body. By energizing the chakras, you unleash various physical and emotional benefits in the recipient.

It is perfectly alright for the massage to be followed by sexual activity, but at least half an hour of patient massage should precede such activity. If your partner is fully relaxed as a result of the tantra massage, the lovemaking can indeed be spectacular.
