Tantra yoga, when practiced regularly under the instructions of a qualified tantra master, benefits a student of tantra in multi-fold ways. In the first place, tantra yoga gives us a complete picture of our Being. The importance of this cannot be over-emphasized.

In routine modern life, we do not recognize or acknowledge how our mind and various body parts should work together in synchronicity. Regular practice of tantra yoga raises awareness of this vital synchronous functioning. This awareness helps us to live in the moment – a very important spiritual principle. It also encourages us to appreciate and respect this mind-body unit we have been blessed with on our earthly journey.
Practice of tantra yoga also creates an awareness of the spiritual power – our tantric energy – which lies dormant within until awakened. From awareness and the harnessing of this tantric energy springs forth the ability enjoy everything much more, including (but certainly not limited to) intimate contact with our partner. When tantric energy is unleashed with diligent pursuit of tantra yoga, it cleanses and unblocks the mind-body-spirit connection which is so essential for all other aspects of tantra practice.
Not least of all, tantra yoga is an important tool in achieving mental and physical relaxation. In the pursuit of our daily lives, we invite and harbour stresses which no feat of modern medicine can free us of. Medicine is helpless in the face of chronic stress because it is a spiritual malaise, not a medical one. The meditation techniques you learn in tantric instruction sessions cut through the Gordian knot of stress with a ‘slow knife’.
It is a mistake to approach any form of yoga as a means of healing. The quest for healing implies that there is something wrong with you. While this may be true, yoga itself does not focus on negatives. It is part of a spiritual path that accepts everything human ‘as is’, not ‘as it should be’, In other words, you can embrace the practice and benefits of tantra yoga no matter what your mental, physical or spiritual condition is.
No matter what your current state is, tantra yoga will awaken your mind, allow you to access the latent spiritual energy within and have a more complete and holistic earthly journey. Your tantra teacher will be your guide on this journey – follow his instructions, and do not attempt to rush the process. The various kriyas and mudras of tantric yoga may at times seem tedious, but each of them serves as a tool in the larger purpose.
Above all, focus on the spiritual principles of this ancient path of love and life. Most people tend to seek out a tantra teacher because they want to pep up their sex lives. While sex is an important part of the journey, it is not an integral one. When your mind, body and spirit have achieved a sufficient level of synchronicity by the practice of tantra yoga and tantric meditation, spiritual sex comes naturally and joyfully into your life.

When most people think of tantra, they usually imagine that it is all about advanced sex. While sex is certainly a component of the tantric science, there is a lot more to it than that. Let me tell you what tantra sadhana involves.

Sadhana is a term that describes a spiritual path which has a specific objective or goal. A sadhu or sadhika is a man or woman pursuing a spiritual path that leads to a higher degree of spiritual realization. Since tantra is such a spiritual path, one who pursues it can expect to encounter enlightenment and liberation from earthly constraints of mind and body.
Tantra sadhana is therefore a spiritual pursuit in the classic sense of the tradition of ‘Bhakti’. Sexual techniques are certainly involved, but only in the context of liberation from physical and spiritual repression. Overcoming these repressions plays a big role in tantra sadhana so that complete self-realization becomes possible.
A person embarked on the path of tantra sadhana under an acknowledged tantra teacher practices specific meditation techniques, learns and recites prescribed tantra mantras (chants) and engages in tantra deity worship (puja). In the tantric arts, the quintessential deities are the tantra goddess Shakti and the traditional tantric god Shiva. The power, love and passion that these two deities embody are the basis of all tantric practices.
Learning tantra under a gifted tantra master is therefore not a trivial pursuit of sexual thrills, but involves understanding a whole philosophy, science and life path. Ancient tantra was conceived by Indian sadhus who studied humans and how they fit into both Nature and the cosmic scheme of things. The techniques they formulated are geared towards helping men and women to get body, mind and soul in perfect synch with Nature and the cosmos.
A student of tantra can be said to be on the path of tantra sadhana when he or she begins to practice the various rituals and techniques prescribed by their tantra master. This is the spirit of bhakti and sadhana, which requires the relinquishing of the ego and an attitude of worship in order to achieve spiritual awakening. In tantra, this worshipful attitude manifests in tantra puja, which is a system of ritualistic worship of the deities.
In tantra for couples sessions, the students gain a better understanding of the tantric deities Shiva and Shakti. As the couple progresses in their instructions under their tantra teacher, these deities themselves become the subjects and objects of intimacy – including sexual intimacy. Only when the couple reaches this level of awareness does tantric sex begin to have real meaning.
In short, the glories and joys of tantric sex are a gift that those who are on the path of tantra sadhana. This gift does not come apart from tantra sadhana. This is why this ancient science of life and love must essentially be learned under the expert tutelage of an experienced tantra teacher, or guru.

According to ancient tantra, there is a deep and inextricable connection between sex and spirituality. As such, human intimate relationships are therefore considered spiritual in nature. Where the necessary elements of this spiritual bond are missing, tantra gives us ways and means to introduce and nourish them. One such way is tantra goddess worship.

It is deplorable to see how the sacred concept of tantra goddess worship has been bastardized today. It seems to have become a pseudo-spiritual pseudonym for female-dominant prostitution. Many online portals advertise so-called ‘tantra goddess worship services’ wherein men who enjoy being dominated sexually by a woman can pay for the privilege. Nothing could be further from what true worship of the tantric goddess truly is.
In tantra, the woman is genuinely seen as a goddess in all respects. She is the wellspring of creation and procreation, and the tantra goddess ‘puja’ (or worship) is both a series of rituals as well as an all-encompassing attitude on the part of the male. The male acknowledges that the sensual energies within the woman have been vested upon her by the Universe, and that it is from her that human life springs. The woman is therefore worshipped and her sacred sexual energy is given its rightful honour.
As the woman evolves in her male partner’s eyes from being a mere sexual object to the tantra goddess incarnate, a wonderful transformation takes place in their relationship. Mere intimacy becomes tantric love, and the cosmic dance between the tantric goddess and her worshipful consort commences. The male rises above his base physical desires and loses himself in his woman’s sacred incarnation. When sex does take place, it is nothing less than the celestial unification of the tantra god and tantra goddess. The relationship becomes holy in the eyes of the Universe, and is finally complete in all respects.
As the couple learn more about this wondrous new incarnation of their love from their tantra teacher, they become increasingly introspective and discover their innate spiritual potential. Love and intimacy become less self-seeking and more partner-focused. True communication begins, and the woman perceives – often for the first time in what may have been years of togetherness with the same man – that she is cherished and valued.
To learn about the transforming power of tantric goddess worship, it is essential that the partners seek the guidance of a gifted tantra master. Only in the context of expertly guided tantra for couples instructions can true sacred intimacy take place.
