Apart from its effects on the physical level, there are also deep psychological factors involved.

One of the first things that a tantra teacher focuses on in a tantra for couples setting is the building up of trust between the partners. How does this tie in with multiple orgasms? Very simply put, it is the lack of trust in ourselves and each other that prevents us from opening ourselves completely enough to experience it. Orgasm is definitely the very pinnacle of sexual pleasure, but it is also at this point that the human being is at his or her most vulnerable.

It is next to impossible to respond to any kind of threat while one is in the throes of sexual climax. Most protective reflexes shut down completely at this point. The mind, which is our primary defense system and tool, is unwaveringly focused on the pleasure it perceives. However, the nation would not be able to fully celebrate Sachin’s latest feat if it were looking over its shoulders, fearing an attack.

In the same way, it is impossible to fully enjoy sexual intimacy without complete trust in one’s partner. At the moment of orgasm, all our defenses are down. We are fully open to the other.
